How to Sell Your Avionics Through Skyman Avionics
Updated: Jul 16
If you've upgraded your panel, sold your aircraft or just have avionics equipment sitting in a hangar collecting dust, turning that gear into cash doesn't have to be complicated. Skyman Avionics makes it simple to sell used avionics, whether you're offloading a single nav/com unit or an entire instrument panel's worth of equipment.
Here's exactly how the process works and what you can expect at every step.
Why Sell Through Skyman Avionics?
Selling avionics on your own, through forums, classifieds or marketplace listings, means handling your own photography, pricing research, buyer questions, payment collection and shipping logistics. It also means competing for attention in a crowded space where buyers are wary of unknown sellers.
Skyman Avionics removes that friction. As a family-owned business based at Redmond Municipal Airport (KRDM) in Redmond, Oregon, we specialize in buying and consigning used avionics for owners and shops across the country. We handle the listing, marketing and buyer communication, and back every sale with a 30-day warranty that gives buyers confidence, which means your equipment sells faster and at a fairer price.
I had avionics removed for an upgrade. I did not have the time or inclination to sell them myself, so I shipped them off to Skylar. He sold them quickly and I received more than I expected. He remitted my portion of the sale quickly. I'll use him again. He exceeded my expectations in every way. In a marketplace full of scammers, Skylar is the real deal. | W. Hedges - Aircraft Owner
Step 1: Take Inventory of What You Have
Before reaching out, gather the basics on each piece of equipment:
Make and model (e.g., Garmin GTN 750, Collins AFD-3010, Bendix King KT 74)
Part number and serial number, if available
Condition: working, removed for upgrade, unknown condition, etc.
Documentation: yellow tags, 8130-3 forms, logbooks or any paperwork that came with the unit
The more documentation you have, the easier and faster it is to get an accurate valuation. Equipment with an FAA 8130-3 tag or clear maintenance history typically commands a higher resale value. If you don’t have the time to create a list, start with a photo.
Step 2: Reach Out to Skyman Avionics
You have a few ways to start the conversation:
Call us directly at 541-604-9573
Email info@skymanavionics.com
Let us know what you're looking to sell and any details you gathered in Step 1. Photos help too, even quick ones taken on your phone.
Step 3: Choose How You Want to Sell
Skyman Avionics offers a couple of paths depending on your goals:
Outright Purchase: If you want a fast, straightforward transaction, we can make an offer to purchase your equipment directly. You get paid promptly and we take on the responsibility of listing, marketing and selling the units.
Consignment: If you'd rather hold out for top dollar and don't need immediate cash, consignment lets us list and sell your equipment on your behalf. We handle photography, listing details, buyer questions, the transaction and shipping. You get paid once it sells, typically at a higher net return than an outright sale.
We work with both individuals and enterprises nationwide, so whether you're a single aircraft owner or a shop clearing out excess inventory, there's a path that fits.
Avionics Shops: Turn Years of Accumulated Inventory Into Real Revenue
If you run an avionics shop, there's a good chance you have shelves, drawers or a back room full of pulled units, trade-ins and leftover stock that's built up over years of work. Most shops know this equipment has value but don't have the time, staff or bandwidth to price it, photograph it and sell it piece by piece.
That's where we come in. Skyman Avionics will come out to your shop and haul away your entire accumulated inventory, no matter how large or disorganized it is. We handle the sorting, evaluation, listing and sale of every unit so your team can stay focused on the work in front of you instead of managing a side marketplace business.
This service has proven to be extremely valuable for shops we work with. On average, shops that partner with us earn between $50,000 and $150,000 in their first year alone simply by turning years of dead inventory into cash, with zero effort required on their end beyond the initial pickup.
If your shop has been accumulating avionics for years without a plan to sell them, it's worth a conversation. Reach out and we'll come take a look at what you have.

This is a common sight that we see at avionics shops across the country. This shop decided to take back their shelf space and offloaded all of their used equipment with us. They've been very happy with the regular payouts from their sold items.
I didn’t have the time or patience to list all of our removed equipment online and babysit it. Working with Skyman Avionics has been a wonderful business decision. Gone are the days of me sitting on equipment until it has lost all value. Skylar is so easy to work with and the process flows very smoothly. Communication is top notch. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone. | Andy S. - Muncie Aviation Company
Step 4: We Evaluate and Price Your Equipment
Once we receive your equipment details (and the unit itself, if applicable), our team evaluates its condition, checks current market demand and sets a price that reflects both fair market value and a quick, confident sale for the buyer. We understand this market closely, from popular nav/com units to more specialized gear like autopilot adapters and flight displays, so pricing is grounded in what's actually moving, not guesswork.
Track Everything Through Our Consignor Portal
When you consign with us, you’re not left wondering what’s happening with your equipment. Our proprietary consignor portal gives you real-time visibility into everything you’ve listed with us, including what’s still available and what’s already sold. You can check in whenever you’d like instead of waiting on updates from our team.
Step 5: We List It and Handle the Sale
Once your equipment is priced, it goes live in our inventory alongside new products from trusted brands. Every listing includes clear details, condition notes and for items removed in working condition–our 30-day warranty, a detail that reassures buyers and helps equipment sell faster than an unwarrantied private listing would. For an item in unknown condition or with known defects, we sell it as is without warranty so you don’t have to worry about it again. We have a network of buyers that will purchase them for parts.
From there, we manage:
Buyer inquiries and questions
Payment processing
Shipping and logistics
Any post-sale support covered under warranty
You don't have to field emails from strangers or coordinate shipping yourself. We handle the back-and-forth so you don't have to.
If you have consigned avionics or removed avionics that you have been sitting on for years, contact Skyman Avionics. You will not be disappointed. Skylar made a trip to our shop, made detailed lists of the equipment he was interested in, boxed it up carefully, labeled and contacted the shipping company for pick up. Within a couple of weeks, we received our first check. Not only are we benefitting but so are our customers that have consigned equipment with us. Most of this equipment was not sellable for us. We listed on multiple sites and really had very little luck selling. That is not the case with Skyman Avionics. Skylar and Kelsey are amazing people to work with. Very professional and very organized. You will not be disappointed. | Aerotronics
Step 6: Get Paid
For outright purchases, payment happens up front once the deal is agreed. For consignment sales, you're paid once the item sells, according to the terms we agree on when you consign.
Get Paid the Way That Works for You
We know payout flexibility matters, especially when you’re consigning multiple units or working with us regularly. That’s why we offer a variety of payout methods, including PayPal, Venmo, Zelle and check. Choose whichever option is easiest for you and we’ll take care of the rest.
A Few Tips to Get the Best Value
Don't wait too long to sell equipment you're not using. Avionics technology moves fast and older units lose value more quickly the longer they sit.
Keep your documentation together. A traceability tag or 8130-3 tag can meaningfully increase what a buyer is willing to pay.
Be upfront about the condition. Units removed for an upgrade in working condition sell differently than units with known issues. Accurate info means a smoother transaction and fewer surprises for everyone.
Ask about consignment if you're not in a rush. It most often nets more than an immediate outright sale.
Shops should not let inventory sit indefinitely. The longer accumulated units sit on a shelf, the more value they lose. A single haul-away can unlock tens of thousands of dollars that would otherwise sit unused. Keep in mind that any item you have on our consignment program is still yours as long as we haven’t already sold it. If you have a plane in the shop that needs one of your items, we can ship it back to you same day.
